Getting Help from a Sleep Consultant and What to Expect

If you are completely frustrated and exhausted because your little one isn’t sleeping, and your fingers are tired from all the googling on baby sleep, it may be time to get some outside help and guidance from a certified pediatric sleep consultant. While Google will bring up many search results about why your baby isn’t sleeping the way they should be, too much googling can lead to more questions and may lead you to more questions than answers, creating more frustration.

What to Expect When You First Reach Out to Me

When a potential client reaches out to me, I first like to get on a discovery call with them. A lot goes on during the 20-minute call. During this phone call, I can determine your specific sleep challenges with your little one. Typically, when I talk to a parent about their frustration, they have heard many approaches to handling sleep issues and have become even more anxious, frustrated, and beyond. I will take the time to explain what may be happening with your little one and if sleep training would benefit you and your family. I’ll give you examples of what you can expect if we move forward and discuss realistic outcomes, considering age-appropriate goals.

Parents will Benefit from Strong Problem-Solving Skills

As a postpartum doula, I’ve had the honor of working with hundreds of families since 2006 and have helped with problem-solving and sifting through all the information online about many kinds of baby issues. I’ve always loved the problem-solving part of my job. Other than parents getting a good night’s rest, I love that they benefit from discussions about different areas of baby care and related challenges. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, your baby did not read the textbook about themselves! Therefore, they may not know that they’re not following protocol. I really enjoy diving into all the details of baby challenges to develop practical solutions for parents to utilize. This skill has transferred into my pediatric sleep consulting business.

Getting Started on Your Baby’s Road to Great Sleep

Once you have decided that we’re a good match, I’ll send an intake form to you. The more detail you can give, the better. Once I’ve looked over it, I’ll write up a very detailed sleep plan to follow. In some cases, I’ll have two plans you can choose from. Then before you start the sleep plan/training, we’ll get on the phone and go over everything line-by-line so that you know what to do in every situation that should arise. This call is an essential part of the coaching/consulting process. As a parent, you need to know what to do when your little one reacts in a certain way to the training. I want to make sure that you have the answers before you need them at 2 a.m.

The Payoff for Getting a Sleep Consultant

Sleep training is hard work, and I like to make sure that I’m not sugarcoating it. However, it gets better after a few rough nights, and the payoff will be well worth it! We will celebrate every step of the way as your little one’s sleep improves.
